If you've got a heavy frost forecast for Christchurch tonight, here's a tip that saved me heaps of time clearing the car windscreen in the morning: spray it with a mix of 2 parts white vinegar to 1 part water the night before. The acetic acid lowers the freezing point and the ice comes off in a sheet. Just don't use it on tinted windows long-term. If you're out of vinegar, a cheapo bottle works fine. Another one – put a sock filled with cat litter under the wipers to stop them freezing to the glass. Sorted for winter mornings.
