Just a heads up for anyone in Christchurch dealing with the rental market – if your landlord tries to raise the rent more than once in 12 months, that's actually illegal under the Residential Tenancies Act. Also, you only need to give 21 days' notice when you want to end a periodic tenancy, not 28 like some landlords claim. Saved me a bunch of stress knowing my rights. Hope this helps someone else too.
