Oh great, so we're gonna pay more for power so the government can pretend they're doing something. Classic.
100% this. Politicians are clueless.
Simeon Brown doesn't know how electricity works. Backup supply? Just build more generation ya muppet.
As someone who works in the industry, this is a joke. They want us to secure backup but won't let us charge properly for it. Gonna be a shitshow winter.
but who's gonna pay for it? Ratepayers? We already do.
My power bill is already ridiculous. Might as well light candles and read a book.

ffs just build more hydro and be done with it. Stop making everything a political football.
stuffed, they should have thought of that before selling everything off.
Hang on though, we do need backup for when the wind doesn't blow. Someone's gotta pay for that. But not like this.
lol cope, hydro takes decades. We need batteries.
Sick of politicians pretending they care. They just want votes. Meanwhile we freeze.
backup is fine but not if we have to pay for corporate greed.
So the government screws up the market, then blames companies. Sounds about right.
