Yeah nah, councils are useless anyway. Took 8 months for a bloody carport consent. Let private certifiers have a go, can't be worse.
if you think councils are bad, wait till you deal with a private certifier who wants to keep the builder happy. Good luck with that.
Oh great, so now we'll have cowboy builders signing off their own dodgy work. What could possibly go wrong?
Exactly! Who checks the checker when it's a private company in it for profit?
As someone who works on sites every day, councils are slow but at least they hold the line on safety. Take them out and we'll see more leaky homes. Mark my words.
This. People think bureaucracy is pointless until the roof caves in.

This is just a giveaway to developers. National sucking up to their mates in the building industry. Wait till the next earthquake and see who's liable.
Honestly I'm torn. My neighbour waited 14 months for a simple deck consent. That's ridiculous. But I don't trust private companies either. Catch 22 really.
ffs just speed up the councils instead of gutting the system. Lazy politicians looking for easy wins.
If it means my bathroom renovation gets done before 2028, I'm all for it. Council was gonna charge me $3k just to look at the plans.
lol $3k? Try $5k for a shed consent. Daylight robbery.
