yep, my cousin's claim got declined because of some obscure council note from 20 years ago. it's a joke.
this is basically councils passing the buck so they don't have to invest in proper stormwater infrastructure. typical.
BLOODY COUNCILS again. They'll do anything to avoid responsibility. Meanwhile our land values drop and we're left holding the bag. Disgrace.
wow as a first home buyer this is terrifying. you could save your whole life for a deposit and then find out ur uninsurable??
work in insurance, can confirm this is gonna get messy. if councils start flagging every bit of land that's ever seen a puddle, half of nz is screwed

yeah nah councils haven't got a clue. they slap hazard notices on titles without even telling owners, then wonder why people are pissed.
yup exactly. and insurers will use any excuse to weasel out of paying. seen it happen too many times
so what's the alternative? just let people build on active fault lines and then cry when the house collapses? there's no easy answer here

nah but they should at least tell people. a surprise hazard notice is basically theft of your property value
