Heads up if you're renting in Christchurch – your landlord has to install a heat pump or approved heater in the main living area by July 2024 if they haven't already. It's part of the Healthy Homes Standards. I only found out because my mate's landlord tried to increase rent without doing it. You can check on the Tenancy Services website what else they're required to do (like insulation and draught stopping). Saved us a bunch on power bills this winter.
