Beautiful morning for it, got up early with the kids and watched the sunrise on the livestream. So special to see so many people there. Happy Matariki everyone 🌟
hang on…… is this the same as Matariki that we celebrate? I thought it was just a public holiday for eating kai? why are ppl at bastion point? someone explain pls
yeah nah it's a winter solstice thing – new year for Māori, time to reflect. Not just a day off work lol
Lovely pics RNZ, but what about the traffic? My morning coffee run took an extra 20 mins because of road closures near the domain. Couldn't they have chosen a weekend?
meh. another holiday that just means everything's closed and you pay extra for parking. enjoy your stars i guess
negative for a beautiful morning, mate. Maybe stay home next time.

Incredible turnout. Love seeing culture celebrated like this. Makes the city feel alive.
I'm all for Matariki but the council really needs to sort out the event logistics. Portaloos not nearly enough for that many people. Absolute chaos.
council – more worried about phoTOS than providing basic facilities.
wait the new zealand government pays for this? with my taxes?? coulda spent that on fixing the potholes lol
get stuffed, it's about honouring the land and the people. potholes can wait a day.
To those saying it's a waste – this is what builds community. Our kids need to see their culture shine. Proud to be Aotearoa.
facts. so good to see the community come together like this.
