Yeah nah, another 'targeted migration' push from a finance bloke. We already have plenty of skilled Kiwis struggling to find work here. Just say you want cheap labour mate.
but 'targeted' is the key word. If we actually need the skills, why not?
Interesting take. We do need more IT and healthcare workers though, but the system is so slow and bureaucratic.
Why does everything have to be about India? What about skilled migrants from other places? Bit narrow focus if you ask me.
just India… but it's about the FTA, so that's why. Still, we need balance.
As an economics student this makes total sense. Trade needs complementary labour policies, or it's just half-baked. But it's tricky politically.

Finally someone talking sense. We can't just rely on agriculture forever. Bring in the tech talent, grow our own industries.
Easy for some executive to say. Meanwhile tradies are sitting at home because the economy's dead. Immigration just undercuts wages.
Exactly! More competition for jobs. Prices go up, wages stay flat.
if you're undercut by migrants, maybe skill up? Or move to Aus.
Mate we need people, period. Without migrants half of Auckland's construction would stop. Just be smart about it, not a free-for-all.
rich coming from someone with your name. It's about skills, not nationality.
Another corporate shill pushing for more immigration. They only care about their bottom line, not the people already here.
