So NZ On Air is handing out MY taxpayer money to video game developers? absolute joke. my grandkids already waste enough time on those things. should be funding proper media or fixing the roads instead.
fuming
ffs nearly $22m and I can't even get a new whiteboard for my classroom. priorities are cooked.
still can't believe this. who's even playing nz games?
Honestly, gaming is a legit industry now. If we don't invest we'll lose all our talent to Australia again. This is peanuts compared to what the film industry gets.
mate, game dev is a real job too. But still – we need more funding for schools not just flashy projects.

yeah but film gets way more and nobody complains. same thing.
can someone explain why my rates keep going up but we got money to burn on this crap?
Look, I get it – people wanna make games. But $22 million could've gone to a lot of community projects that actually help people. Feels like a handout.
know there's a global market right? Not everything is about your backyard.
As someone who works in tech, this is exactly the kind of investment we need. Game dev creates hundreds of skilled jobs. These bootlickers in the comments have no idea.
bootlickers? lmao some of us just don't want our taxes wasted on pixels. get real.
Seems like a good thing to me. Our kids play these games anyway, might as well create jobs here. Better than sending the money overseas.
22 MILLION DOLLARS. that's not peanuts mate. that's my grandkids' future. what a load of shit.
