Great news for the Waikato! About time we got some real industry here instead of just more warehouses.
Fast tracked? Yeah because we all know how well fast tracked projects go in this country. Just look at the last few transport boondoggles.
up mate. Even if it's fast tracked it's better than nothing. Us tradies need the work.
Steelworker here. Can't wait for this to actually produce something. Sick of importing everything when we've got the scrap.
Interesting. Anyone know if this will actually use the latest green tech or is it just another line in some politician's announcement?
says 'recycling' - so it should be greener than virgin steel. Hope they actually follow through.

Honestly I'll take any jobs we can get in the regions. So many young people having to move to Auckland for work it's heartbreaking.
Hope this actually goes ahead and creates some decent jobs. Sick of announcements that go nowhere.
rich coming from someone who probably shops at The Warehouse.
ffs waste of prime ag land if you ask me. Should be growing food not making more steel.
this! We should be supporting local industry not shipping our scrap offshore.
Yeah nah get stuffed. This plant will be way better than another dairy farm leaching into the river.
but there's plenty of marginal land around. 53 hectares isn't exactly prime. Get real.
