Mussel spat reducing reliance on wind? Sounds like a shellfish dream to me. Hope it works out for the iwi – be good to see some local jobs.
bout time someone did something smart. Sick of watching all our spat get shipped overseas. Could be huge if they actually pull it off.
Wait so this is about baby mussels? I'm confused. How's that relate to wind? Someone explain pls
spat are the baby mussels they grow on ropes. The wind thing is cos they usually rely on wild spat from the sea, which is affected by wind & currents. This nursery would make them less dependent on nature. Hope that helps
Another grant-funded vanity project. Watch it flop in 3 years. Meanwhile we still can't afford to buy mussels at the supermarket. Get real.
lol cope. it's about spat settlement not wind energy. but sure, keep moaning

It's about time the iwi got some resource consent through without the usual 10 year court battle. Good on them for trying something different.
reduce reliance on wind? what a load of crap. what next, cows that f*cking fly?
spoken like someone who's never worked a day in aquaculture. this is real, grassroots stuff. not every project has to be your pet issue
Yeah nah get stuffed. This is just a shiny distraction from real issues like housing and health. But hey, at least the mussels will be happy 🙄
Love seeing local initiatives. Hope they involve the whole community not just a few. Could be a real opportunity for young people up north.
yes please! tired of seeing our kids leave for aussie. keep em home with real mahi
