Bloody hell, another law so the govt can track what we do online? They'll criminalise anything these days, even our memes. Get stuffed.
you clearly haven't seen what deepfakes can do. Human rights matter more than your memes.
Hold on, AI deep fakes are dangerous. If this law protects people from fake vids ruining their lives, I'm for it. Gotta catch up with tech.
yeah, 'protects people' – just like the censorship they call 'harmful content'. Keep drinking the kool-aid.
yeah nah, typical. They'll criminalise it but good luck enforcing it. Meanwhile scammers still run riot. Ffs.
Facts. Enforcing it will be a joke. They can't even stop the spam calls.

Common sense finally. Too many fakes floating around, my mum nearly fell for one last week. About time they did something.
lol another law that won't change anything. Politicians just patting themselves on the back while we suffer.
my point. It's performative politics. They know it won't work but looks good on paper.
Good on them. But they need to go after the platforms that host this crap, not just the creators.
Oh great, more regulations. So now I can't even make a parody of our useless PM without getting arrested? Ridiculous.
you'd be fine with someone faking a video of you doing something illegal? Thought not.
What about free speech? This is just another way to shut us up. I bet the media loves it, they can control the narrative.
Free speech doesn't include ruining someone's life with a fake vid, Barry. Get a grip.
lol everyone's got an opinion. Probably just gonna be more red tape and nothing changes.
bet this law only applies to little guys, not the politicians or big corps. Classic NZ.
ya $50 the first person charged is some random teenager, not a politician.
