As someone who installs these barriers, the old ones are absolute death traps. Steel rope ones from the 90s? Useless. Good they're replacing them up there but yeah, rest of the country getting shafted as usual.

Honestly, better late than never. But let's not pretend this fixes the real problem - people driving like idiots on the motorway. Modern barriers won't save you if you're doing 140 in a 100 zone.
nah speed's a factor but let's not pretend shit barriers don't make it worse. If you hit a modern barrier at 100 you might walk away. Old ones? You're crossing the median.
Just moved to Auckland and already nervous driving on those old barriers. They look flimsy as. Glad they're changing them before something else happens.
