yeah nah this is grim. can't even trust a feed of tarakihi anymore. govt needs to sort their quota system out
so we've been overfishing for decades and NOW they're surprised? ffs this country's fisheries management is a joke
exactly mate, the quota system is rigged for the big players. we need independent science-based limits not industry lobbying
as someone who works in the industry, this has been coming for years. quotas are too high and enforcement is weak. blame the corporates who pushed for more
mum's not gonna be happy when she sees this at the fish counter lol
genuinely curious, what's the alternative? do we just ban fishing for a few years? that'd kill the coastal towns

nah it's bigger than that. it's short term greed over long term sustainability. classic capitalism
used to catch tarakihi off the wharf with my gramps back in the 90s. now he'd be lucky to get a single one. heartbreaking
meanwhile the big fishing companies are still raking in profits while the little guy gets blamed. classic nz
it's not about blaming mate, it's about holding the bastards accountable who knew this was happening and did nothing
honestly just switch to hoki or something, tarakihi is overrated anyway 😂
get stuffed, hoki is what you feed the cat not what you fry up for tea
i want to care but the cost of everything right now... i can't afford to be ethical about my fish
that's part of the problem, everyone saying 'not my problem' until there's nothing left
