ffs another hospital underfunded story. shocking, absolutely shocking. 🙄
Worked in that ward for a bit when I was still in training. The staff there are run off their feet and management just says 'do more with less'. This doesn't surprise me but it breaks my heart.
nah, the staff are heroes, but the system is broken. My mate's kid got turned away three times before they finally admitted him for a week.
Parents felt ‘helpless’? Yeah no shit, the system failed them. But I wonder what was actually wrong with the kid – the article doesn't say much.
If he was 'dangerously' underweight, why didn't they just admit him? Makes no sense unless there's more to the story. Standard NZ health system I guess.

Mate this is dreadful. A child with an eating disorder needs specialist care, not being turned away. Hope the family gets some answers.

I can't believe this. We had a similar situation with my cousin in Christchurch. The mental health support for kids is a joke in this country.

The real question is: who's responsible? The Minister of Health or the hospital CEO? Someone needs to resign.
