Oh great, so they'll force the working poor to save while they can't afford rent, then funnel it all into some dodgy mates' infrastructure fund. Classic.
Honestly I don't mind the idea. Plenty of people have zero savings and expect the taxpayer to bail them out when they're 65. A bit of compulsion might actually help them.
but some people literally can't save a cent. This just punishes them more.

Crampton's right — forcing low-income workers to save when they're struggling is straight up cruel. But National don't care, they just want to prop up the markets.
coming from a Labour supporter. National's mates are the same ones who'd run the compulsory scheme. No thanks.
I think it could work if there are proper guardrails. But knowing this lot, they'll let the big banks and fund managers have a field day while regular Kiwis cop the fees.
