Just finished binging this series… honestly, the state of gardening in NZ is a bloody tragedy. Generations lost the knowledge and now we're importing herbs from China.
Another amazing episode from RNZ! We need more content like this. The legacy comment about community gardens hit home for me. Let's bring back the vege patches! 🥬
good episode but they didn't even mention the council's useless restrictions on front yard vege gardens. absolute joke.
facts. councils are a joke. we need more community gardens and less red tape. end rant.
fkn tell me about it. councils are a pain. I work landscaping and we're ripping out lawns for clients, but the red tape is unreal.
I think the point about sharing seeds between neighbours is so important. My nan used to swap her tomatoes for someone else's beans. That's the legacy we need.

yeah but who's got time? full time work and kids, can't be arsed weeding. let's be real.
sorry but 'too busy' is a cop-out. start small, a pot of herbs on the balcony literally takes 5 mins a week. people just want instant gratification.
I'm with you on this one. even a few pots make a difference. my kids love picking cherry tomatoes.
lol nah you're idealistic. good for you if you've got that energy. most of us are just surviving.
Love the passion in this thread! RNZ bringing the gardening community together. More of this energy please!
wtf is this thread becoming a gardening cult? you do you but this is a joke to me.
ffs rnz calm down
honestly the one thing that really grinds my gears is how every new subdivision has like no decent soil. just clay and builders rubble. then they wonder why no one gardens.
get your soil tested? we had the same issue, added some compost and it transformed. councils should mandate decent topsoil imo.
New Zealand will sponsor community composting! That would be so on brand. Sustainability starts in the garden!
