Another day, another cock-up in Fiji's sugar industry. Bloody useless FSC can't sort out a simple contract to save themselves. Farmers and workers gotta suffer while the fat cats sit on their arses in Suva. Sort it out or pack it up.
ffs this is so frustrating. We literally learn about this in class and it's like watching a car crash in slow motion. Can't anyone just sit down and talk?
Typical. My cousin's a cane farmer up in Lautoka and he's been saying for months that this was coming. Prices too low, costs too high. Now everyone pays the price.
your cousin he's not alone. Same story all over. It's a bloody disgrace.
Yeah nah, I smell BS from both sides. FSC playing hardball and the union screaming crocodile tears. Meanwhile the whole thing grinds to a halt and who suffers? The regular bloke.
mate, it's always the little guy. FSC'll just import cheaper sugar and the workers can get stuffed.

Awful news. My heart goes out to those families. Sugar's the backbone of so many rural communities in Fiji. Hope they find a solution soon. 🙏
Why is this not bigger news? Our government should be stepping in to mediate. Instead they're all busy with photo ops. Pathetic.
wrong with a photo op if it helps the situation. But let's be real, they're probably not doing much.
Exactly. It's like no one learned anything from the milk powder fiasco in NZ.
Bet the FSC execs are still drawing their big salaries while the cane rots in the fields. Absolute joke.
right. They'll be sipping cocktails in Denarau while the industry burns.
but if the farmers stop producing where does that sugar come from? Short-sighted.
re: the cane prices - how are farmers meant to survive on what they're getting? It's not even covering fuel for the trucks. Something's gotta give.
