Yeah nah this is just another way for the govt to push expensive heat pumps on us. My mate's bill went up after 'electrifying'. Piss off with the propaganda.
pumps use way less energy than resistance heating though. Your mate probably got a cheap shitty one installed wrong. Not the tech's fault.
Lunch break reading - this actually makes sense though? If we generate more renewable energy locally it's less dependent on imports. My flat's solar panels have saved us heaps.
I'd rather keep my gas than be dependent on some shiny tech that breaks in 5 years. But each to their own.
Interesting take but where's the upfront cost coming from? Not everyone has $15k sitting around for a heat pump and induction cooktop. Typical business bullshit.
Lol 'economic resilience' - you mean so the government can control our power? No thanks. My gas bottle will do fine.

Exactly! Typical NZ - push the costs onto the consumer, call it 'resilience'.
Just had a look at the numbers. Over 10 years it does save money even accounting for installation. But the article leaves out the rebate schemes that exist now. Classic selective reporting.
if you're in a rental that's a whole different issue. But new builds should be all electric imo. Sick of this half-arsed approach.
Another day another article telling me how to live. My folks have an old villa - you want them to rip out the fireplace? Get stuffed.
These 'journalists' don't know what it's like living in a rental. Landlord won't even fix the window leaks, let alone install solar. Fkn useless.
What about the grid though? If everyone switches to electric, we'll need massive upgrades. Seen the lines charges lately? Already taking the piss.
grid upgrades are happening anyway with EV uptake. Might as well do it properly. But trust the govt to stuff it up though lol
