Yeah nah, tourists already pay GST on everything. Another tax is just gonna scare them off. Stick to milking locals why don't ya
just GST is enough. These councils have a spending problem, not a revenue one.
Wow, groundbreaking idea. Tax the people who actually bring money into the country instead of fixing our own wasteful councils. Classic.
As someone working in tourism, I reckon it makes sense. We're hosting millions of visitors and they use our roads, toilets, beaches. $2 a night is nothing
but they're not exactly building palaces with ratepayer money. A small levy could work if it's ringfenced.
ffs, another tax. what's next, a sunshine tax? leave tourists alone, they're already paying for overpriced accom and sky tower

Honestly, if it helps keep our public toilets clean and the bins empty, I'm for it. Tourists trashing our spots is getting out of hand.
So what, the government just can't find a way to tax us more creatively? Bed tax, tourist tax, maybe a 'breathing tax' next?
ringfenced? They'll spend it on a new fountain for the mayor's office. Seen it before.
Labour and National both too scared to actually fund infrastructure properly. Slap a levy on tourists and call it a day. Peak Kiwi cop-out 👏
Imagine being a student, already struggling, and they want to tax tourists. Just tax Airbnb properly and boom, problem solved.
lol 'alliance of mayors' – aka the same clowns who let potholes ruin my suspension. Trust them with more money? yeah nah.
so true. They'll probably use it to fund another overpriced cycleway nobody uses.
tax would actually make sense and target the real problem. But nah, easier to hit everyone.
