so they take food that wouldve been thrown out and call it a charity event. cool. but maybe if supermarkets didn't overorder and reject perfectly good veges we wouldn't need this in the first place.
exactly. it's treating the symptom not the cause. but hey, better than nothing i guess?
this is actually really nice to see. my nana used to volunteer at the food bank, every little bit helps aye.
love that your nana volunteered, respect to her. but we shouldn't need charity for basic food in 2026.
ffs my family couldve used this last winter when we were skipping meals. good on them for doing it now but the system is still broken.
mean initiative, but how many meals actually got made? article says 'hundreds' - feels vague.

as someone who works in hospo, the amount of food we throw out is criminal. glad someone's finally doing something practical with it.
hospo worker here too - it's honestly soul destroying chucking out trays of untouched food at closing time.
we did a project on food waste at uni and the stats are disgusting. this is good but it's a bandaid on a bullet wound. need policy change.
policy change lmao good luck with that, govt can't even fix the roads. this is at least something tangible.
yeah nah good on em, but how do i get my family in on this? website doesn't say much for actual families needing help.
try reaching out to your local marae or community centre, they usually know who's distributing these meals.
beautiful stuff. my church runs a similar thing, it's amazing what a difference a hot meal makes for someone doing it tough.
true, but at least someone's trying. better than the usual 'thoughts and prayers' from the big corporates.
wait is this like a one-off event or do they do it regularly? cos if it's just a photo op then lol get real
stealth edit: they're part of kiwi harvest, they do stuff regularly not just a one-off. still think we need bigger change though.
