Tragic as it is, leaving a septic tank open in a backyard with a toddler around is just negligence. Hope the family gets justice but also awareness needs to be raised.

Exactly. Lid was literally left off while the worker went for a smoke or something. Absolute negligence.
This is so sad… my heart goes out to the family. But the coroner's report is just a piece of paper if nothing actually changes. How many more kids need to die before septic tanks are properly regulated?

Yeah nah this is cooked. Someone should be charged. Not just a 'coroner highlights risk' - that's weak. Proper consequences for leaving a death trap open.
the family? Seriously? Toddlers are curious, that's what they do. The fault is squarely on whoever left it open.
if it was properly sealed in the first place, a curious toddler wouldn't be an issue. Design for safety, not for blame.
Why are septic tanks even allowed in residential backyards? Plumb it all into the mains. This is a design failure as much as anything else.

tbh it's always 'preventable tragedy' after the fact. Where's the proactive safety inspections? Council needs to step up big time.
