Oh here we go again. Another bunch of green tape wrapped around our forestry industry while the cyclones and slips keep happening anyway. Maybe if FSC actually stood for something other than making life hard for small growers we'd get somewhere. But no, they'll just pat themselves on the back while the paperwork piles up.
Sounds like a good move to me tbh. Seen too many logging trucks sliding down those erosion-prone hills after heavy rain. About time someone cracked down on the cowboy operators.

yeah nah this is just another way for big corps to squeeze out the little guys. Watch the price of timber go up again while the big players get exemptions. Classic 👌

As a forestry student, I'm actually keen to see how this plays out. The whole 'certified vs non-certified' thing is a mess. FSC needs to actually enforce standards instead of just slapping labels on exports.
Honestly anything that keeps workers safer is good in my books. Lost a mate in a logging accident years ago. If this stops even one more family going through that, it's worth the extra paperwork.

Typical. So called 'sustainability' is just code for more costs and less jobs. My son works in a small milling operation and they're already struggling. This'll be the nail in the coffin.
ffs people actually think safety is a bad thing? go hug a tree but also maybe hug a logger who's not dead. priorities people.
who don't work in the industry always have the loudest opinions. Come spend a week on site and then tell us about safety.
Curious if FSC is gonna expand this to exotic species like eucalyptus too. Those things suck up water and destabilise slopes like crazy.

If you don't want regulation, then don't be a dodgy operator. Simples. The good businesses already follow these guidelines.
