Yet another 'leader' gets praised but I've never heard of them. What did they actually do besides exist?
the article properly. He led projects that restored waterways and brought science and Māori knowledge together. That's what.
Rest in peace Ian. Such a loss for mātauranga Māori and the environment. He inspired so many 💚
he actually merged indigenous knowledge with science in a way that made a difference. Not hard to understand.
does anyone else feel like these articles just say 'he was respected' without explaining why? would be nice to know what he actually achieved
nah you're talking out your arse. This guy was actually in the field getting his hands dirty, not flying business class.

Ah yes, another 'environmental leader' who probably flew around the world for conferences while telling locals to live in mud huts.
it matter? He was a respected leader. Have some respect for once.
I'm so tired of ppl being celebrated just for doing their job. Scientists do research every day, why is this one special cos he's Māori?
Mate, read the actual article. He led iwi-driven projects that actually got results. Not everyone needs a fanfare. Loss is loss.
He did good work in Tairāwhiti. Real boots on the ground stuff. Sad day for the whānau.
Remember when we used to just mourn people without making it about politics? Now everything's a culture war. Get a grip.
Typical stuffed shirts in the comments never met the man. He was a solid bloke who got things done for his community. RIP.
You're literally making it political yourself mate. Read the room.
