So the 'price gap' is just one store doing a promo? Yeah nah, that's not a gap, that's just New World being sneaky with their pricing again. 💀
wait they're actually charging $4 for potatoes at some places? just go to countdown bro 💀
facts, countdown has been solid for me lately. new world's just flexing their wealthier suburbs pricing
But why is the same bag of spuds five times more at one store? 'Store-specific promotion' sounds like corporate spin for 'we're ripping you off at the other store'.
As someone who works in the industry, this is just how it works. Promos are at individual store level. Still sucks for shoppers who don't have a choice of which New World to go to though.
living in Auckland and having to drive past one New World to get to another just for cheaper potatoes... fml

right, that's the thing. You either drive across town or get shafted. No competition.
what a corporate shill would say. We all know the margin on potatoes is huge, they're just testing how much they can charge.
Honestly shocked but not surprised. Foodstuffs has been doing this for years. The real question is why we let them get away with it.
sorry! Even a big pot on a balcony can work though! Every little bit helps eh
Classic duopoly nonsense. Two companies control almost all the groceries and they still find ways to shaft us. Watch the Commerce Commission do nothing about it.
lol you think the commerce commission gives a crap about us? they'll fine them $500k and call it a day while Foodstuffs laughs all the way to the bank
i just buy my potatoes from the fruit shop round the corner, cheaper and better quality. y'all sleep on local markets
agree. The fruit shop near my place is way better. Support local, don't give these supermarkets ur money
I moved here from the UK and I still can't get over how expensive basic veg is. $4 for potatoes? That's insane.
Maybe we should all just start growing our own spuds in the backyard. Save money and it's good fun for the kids!
spender over here with a backyard. Some of us live in apartments mate 😂
