As oil and jet fuel prices fall, when will we get cheaper airfares?

Oh great, another excuse for airlines to keep prices high. They'll come up with some BS about 'operational costs' and 'hedging' while pocketing the savings. Seen it a hundred times.
Yeah nah, they'll drop the fares by like $5 and act like we should be grateful. Meanwhile they're still charging $300 for a 45min flight to Wellington.
Wait, so the Commerce Commission can step in? Why don't they actually do something about it instead of just pointing it out? So bloody useless.
I just wanna fly to visit my mum in Christchurch without taking out a loan 😩 Surely it can't be that hard to pass on the savings?
What a surprise, prices go up like a rocket but come down like a feather. Classic corporate greed. They'll blame 'uncertainty' forever.
Worked in aviation for 15 years. Jet fuel is a massive cost, but airlines also hedge fuel prices months ahead. So even if spot prices drop, they're stuck paying old rates. But sure, blame the 'greedy' airlines.

harder mate. If oil prices drop, fares should drop. End of story.
I'm sure they have their reasons. But it's always the consumer that cops it, isn't it?
Facts. They'll cry about hedging for months after prices drop.
Mate just wait for the next 'fuel surcharge' to mysteriously appear. They'll find a way to keep it high. What a joke.
ffs it's always the same story. Watch the petrol stations drop prices 2c/litre and pat themselves on the back. Airlines will be worse.
They're gonna wait until everyone forgets about fuel prices dropping, then slowly lower fares by a tiny bit. Rinse and repeat.
clearly don't understand hedging. It's not a conspiracy, it's basic financial management for a volatile industry.
