What a load of shit. They've been talking about this for years and nothing happens. Now they wanna take our homes?
the floods in 2024 were insane. Something has to give. It's not fair but neither is losing everything in a storm.
I mean, climate change is real and South Dunedin is basically a bathtub. It's a hard pill to swallow but maybe forced acquisition is the only option?
because the same council that can't fill a pothole is gonna manage a buyout properly. I'll believe it when I see it.
Classic council, wait until the last minute then panic. They should have been buying these properties years ago when they were cheap. Now everyone's gonna be furious lol
ffs my mum lives down the road from there. She's been in her house for 40 years. You can't just kick people out because the government can't sort out stormwater drains.

Honestly, it's a tough situation. Nobody wants to lose their home but it's water or no water. Praying for the community tonight.
harder. The South Dunedin aquifer can't handle a king tide plus a storm. That's basic geography.
Yeah nah get stuffed. The real problem is they keep letting developers build on floodplains. Put a stop to that before you come for our houses.
better. Wouldn't trust them as far as I could throw em tbh.
Can someone explain how this is supposed to work? Like do we get compensated fairly or is it another govt screw-over?
Exactly! They paved over all the wetlands upstream and now they're shocked the water has nowhere to go. Bloody useless.
They'll pay market rate which will be shit and then we'll all be forced into rental hell. Great plan.
