Another case of insurance companies finding any excuse not to pay out. I've been paying premiums for 40 years and when my roof leaked they said it was 'gradual damage' too. Bloody joke. This government needs to step in and regulate these crooks.
Mate you gotta check your policy wording. Gradual damage is almost never covered by standard house insurance. Sucks but it's been like that for ages.
mate I read my policy cover to cover. They'll always find a way to wriggle out. It's designed that way.
ffs how is stepping out of a shower not a sudden event though? The floor gave way. That's not gradual, that's just shitty maintenance got exposed.
Exactly! Common sense should apply. Insurance is just legalised theft.
Yeah nah insurance companies are just legalised scammers at this point 😒

Always read the fine print. These stories pop up every few months and people act surprised. Water damage over time = gradual. Doesn't matter if you fell through suddenly.
Poor bugger. Hope he gets something out of them even if it's partial. Homeownership is already expensive enough without insurers screwing you over.
but you can't blame the company for following the contract. Blame the system or the regulator.
My parents had the same thing with their bathroom. Ended up costing $15k to fix out of pocket. Insurance wouldn't touch it. Such a rort.
but their parents probably didn't know to check. That's the point – it's a trap.
Morning coffee and another reminder that insurance is a scam. Great start to the day.
mate coffee's more reliable than insurance companies. At least it doesn't let you down.
If the floor collapsed that's a structural issue right? Should be covered under home insurance not contents. What a mess.
Worked in insurance for 10 years. Gradual damage exclusion has been standard since forever. People need to actually read their policies instead of winging it.
what do you suggest? Just let people lose their savings over a leaky pipe?
out of here with that attitude. People work hard for their homes. Insurers should cover genuine accidents.
