Absolute rip-off. My power bill went up $40 this month and they blame 'wholesale costs' – yeah right. Loyalty means nothing to these corporate wankers.
piss off, not everyone has time for that. Some of us work 60-hour weeks.
Working in the industry, I can tell you most people just CBF switching. Takes 10 mins online, but nah, too busy watching Shortland St.
facts. i literally did it in a coffee break. took longer to find my last bill.
wait, half the country is just taking it up the bum? i switched last year and saved $350. literally took 5 minutes on Powerswitch.
My elderly neighbour still pays by cheque and thinks 'the power company is a good kiwi company' – we're talking about Meridian mate, they don't give a toss about you.

Worked for a power company for years. They literally have teams calculating how much they can gouge loyal customers before they leave. It's a feature, not a bug.
I'm the fool. Just switched after reading this. Cheers.
My brother in law works for Contact and he still pays too much because he can't be arsed comparing. Some people 🤷
I've been with the same provider for 8 years. Now I feel like a fool. Thanks Consumer NZ, I guess.
That's true, but you can set a reminder every year. Worth it for $300+.
Switching is easy but what if the new company jacks up prices after a year? Then you gotta switch again. It's a hassle.
exactly! but some people would rather complain than do something about it.
Come on guys, switching isn't that hard. I helped my mum do it and she's 82. Saved her $600 a year. Do it!
Bloody companies colluding behind the scenes. Government should step in, but nah, they're all mates.
