Thousands of bank accounts closed, transferred to IRD

Thousands of NZ bank accounts are closed annually, with funds transferred to IRD if inactive over 5 years and over $100. Banks try to contact owners; unclaimed money exceeds $600 million, claimable via IRD. Last year, Westpac transferred 1,336 accounts.
